Don't Eat The Gravy

Long time friend and partner Ryan Barrett checks in to spend a night in the Guest Room. Ryan is a true journeyman when it comes to music. Starting out at Southern Illinois University (SIU), Ryan hosted several radio shows including one that invited local hip hop emcees to come and showcase their talents live in freestyle battles on air. After SIU, Ryan worked for a radio station in Columbia, Missouri. It was here that Ryan really got into the nitty gritty working as a rock DJ. Ryan has been back stage with plenty of bands, hosted a plethora of quality broadcasts, and is the essence of what it means to be a true radio DJ.  Currently, Ryan lives in northwestern Illinois and on the side he puts together a blog called "Don't Eat The Gravy" donteatthegravy.blogspot.com On his blog Ryan does a great job of keeping the reader entertained with various funnies, pop culture updates, and of course music. He usually posts several podcasts a month. The podcast we feature here in called "Late Night 4". The vibe is exactly the kind of stuff The Guest Room craves...Funky Nasty Rhythm. Subscribe to Don't Eat The Gravy and enjoy the podcast...

Fatt Dukes

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Fatt Dukes Vol. 1

A Zelda like "Tri-Force" has been created ladies and gentleman. Graeme Willams and Phys Edison were licking their chops when long time music collector Duke Cranley (Chicago) opened up his endlessly funky crates for the fellas to pull from. Duke, Graeme, and Phys made a night of this at Dr Caw studios (www.drcaw.com) over a couple cool ones. The mix is extremely funky and presented in a smooth format thanks to the colossal engineering of Graeme Williams. Graeme also created this spooky album cover for our Halloween special. With Duke's vaults now open, this grooving trio plans to resurrect more timeless tunes for our listening ears and we couldn't be happier! Download Fatt Dukes Vol. 1 and feel free to holla at the fellas below on our comments page if you likes what you hears.

DJ Intel - Portishead

Solid technical skill, unmatchable versatility, and a true love for music are among the many things that separate DJ Intel from his contemporaries. His unique style makes him a fan favorite. DJ Intel's ability to spin many genres, including house, rock, dubstep and contemporary as well as hip hop classics, keeps the dance floor full and leaves the people wanting more at the end of the night. DJ Intel has played some of the biggest venues in the Chicago, right now though he's gracing the pages of the Guestroom. To quote Intel, "After I got home from seeing Portishead last night in Chicago I felt like playing some records.  Here's what came out of it.  Enjoy."  This link to this mix and many more can be found on Intel's ultra fresh blog (http://djintelone.blogspot.com/). Intel updates his blog regularly and he would love it if you became a follower. So check out his blog and this amazing mix. Word!

Horizons - Graeme Williams

Horizons

The first of hopefully many gorgeous mixes to be released by Graeme Williams on The Guest Room. Graeme is a musical mastermind from Northbrook, Il. Son of legendary Illinois recording engineer Craig Williams (http://www.drcaw.com/), Graeme literally grew up with a state of the art music studio under his pillow. In "Horizons", Graeme brings us a hot batch of funky tracks to sink our ears into. Graeme described this mix as something you'd like to hear when your driving in your car alone, cleaning the house, or surfing the net. We think you'll have fun finding more situations to place this mix into and if you do why not holla at Graeme on our comments box below. Download "Horizons" you'll  hear songs from Beck, Art Tatum, Tommy James, and Funky 4 + 1.

Hey Bobby

Unreleased and fairly new instrumentals for your listening ears. This is a collection of beats I made from 2008-2011. In typical fashion, I used plenty of obscure samples and sounds in this concoction of juicy tracks. The title "Hey Bobby" refers to a calling and generic name I shout out when conversing with friends. So..... Hey Bobby!!! Download the 26 track new album and enjoy!

That's How It Used To Be...

Hey Hey!
That's How It Used To Be! This is a mix I made in 2008 as a tribute to the early years of hip hop. Lot's of break beats, scratching, party rhyming. I feel that this was possibly the best era for this genre because hip hop was a way of life. Every element from the break dancers to the DJ, the MC to the graffiti artists, all were appreciated and treated with the same respect. I hope you dig "That's How It Used To Be".
